Build courage to be free to succeed

Hello Everyone, Its the start of a new week once again, an opportunity to continue the journey of living our lives to the fullest. This week I will be sharing on courage and how it can give you the freedom to live life and be who you truly are. I have received a lot of questions from people who want to change career and are finding it difficult to decide to move even when they have an offer, or people who know what should be done at work but never step forward to do because it is "unsafe" to challenge their bosses or the status quo, people who find it difficult to fight for their beliefs or their rights. I grew up in the barracks and very easy to grow up with images of macho men who put there lives on the line for others. Also movies, stories of freedom fighters, have created a perception where courage is seen as a prerogative only of the people whose roles put them in the face of danger. Courage goes beyond physical danger as many people deal with more mental fears tha

Hello Everyone, Welcome once again to the Lion's den. Hope you had a great week . I have been writing in the last couple of weeks on purpose and why it is critical. Purpose is critical because it helps us in making choices as we go through life. This week I will be sharing about how to focus your effort and energy as we go through our careers. Each day we go through lots and have to make choices about what to focus on.I have come across a number of young professionals who are struggling, who spend so much energy on trying to do everything or fight every battle and end up getting burnt daily. This is more common when they enter new roles and are eager to demonstrate they can deliver. As a young promising manager who had just been promoted from the field into a strategic planning role in head office, I was brimming with ideas and carried along with me the air of someone who wanted to fix the world in a hurry. This was an opportunity I felt to fix all the wrongs that most field p

Hello Everyone, I hope you had a great week and looking forward to a better one. Last week I wrote about finding your purpose and shared a bit of how I found mine. I got asked by a couple of people to expand a bit more on some of the struggles or challenges I went through as I tried to find my purpose. The most critical in my view was working on my thinking and making the link between my purpose, business results and the change required in me. We were going through a turbulent period in the business and it was easy to mentally push my coach to the side, thinking if he wasn't given me ready answers to my business issues, what was the value? I had a science background and was a numbers person, Couldn't he see that under the circumstances our current estimates were realistic? Have we not all being taught about SMART targets, where was he hiding the realistic?  How could I commit to outcomes that I wasn't in control of all the elements? My breakthrough came when my coach

Finding your purpose

Hello Everyone, I hope you had a great week and looking forward to another one in this journey called life.I am continuing the discussion on purpose and this week the focus is on finding your purpose. Purpose as simply defined is why anyone or anything exists, and last week I shared how having a clear purpose helps guide the choices we make in life and the outcomes we get as a result of our choices. Each time I speak about purpose the obvious next question is how do I find my purpose? I will share my own journey into discovering what my purpose is. My journey of finding my purpose became clearer when I became Sales Director at Guinness .I grew up with a set of values because of the influence of the church and a military environment and these built in me a sense of responsibility beyond myself. I had been considered successful in my career as I had grown in each of the organisations i worked in.However the mantra of the higher you go, the cooler it becomes wasn't reall
